Round 1 of the 2014 Propane Playoff

Round 1 action of the 2014 Propane and Propane Accessories Bracket is now complete!  The competition was fierce but teams gave it their all to advance their dream of being crowned the propane king. Several upset have led some (me) to question the seeding of the tournament committee (me again) but this wouldn’t be any fun without some controversy. Below you’ll find the full sweetest sixteen in propane and a recap of the games (winners in bold).

2014 Propane and Propane Accessories Bracket - Round 1

2014 Propane and Propane Accessories Bracket – Round 1 Results

Appliance Region

  • #1 Grill vs. #8 Tiki Torch – Blowout win for Grilling here.  The Grills showed their strong offense with delicious food while it seemed like the tiki torches were more interested in standing around and looking nice.
  • #2 Furnace vs. #7 Weed Burner – These two flame-throwers dueled it out until the end, but staying warm prevailed and Furnaces advance to the next round.
  • #3 Water Heater vs. #6 Pool Heater – The water heaters came out tough, but the allure of a warm pool beat out the vaunted hot bath defense.
  • #4 Stove vs. #5 Tankless Water Heater - Not even a close game!  Tankless Water Heaters probably should have been a higher seed, they can just keep going and going and going (and going) with hot water.

Use Region

Fleet Region

  • #1 Bobtail vs. #8 Trencher – Bobtails showed why they are a #1 seed.  They are going to be very hard to beat by anyone.
  • #2 Tandem Bobtail vs. #7 Transport – Definitely a shocker!  Everyone was counting on a bobtail showdown to get out of the fleet region, but the Transports just carried more propane in this game.
  • #3 Knuckle Boom vs. #6 Beverage Truck – Cruise game for the Knuckle Boom.  When you have that kind of reach (from the crane), you’re a hard team to beat.
  • #4 F-550 vs. #5 F-350 – A small upset, not terribly surprising as both teams were very evenly matched.

Safety Region

  • #1 Leak Checks vs. #8 Cathodic Protection – Not a single upset in the safety region and it all started with a dominating performance by Leak Checks.
  • #2 Daily PRA vs. #7 Rotten Egg Smell – The AmeriGas safety credo starts with everyone’s Daily Personal Risk Assessment, showing why this team is a leader in safety.  It looks like they are setting up for a showdown with #1 seed Leak Checks.
  • #3 Chock Blocks vs. #6 First Move Forward – Both teams played with a vehicular style of safety, but Chock Blocks held securely to win the game.
  • #4 Face Shield vs. #5 Gloves – This game went down to triple overtime (every driver needs both) but in the end, Face Shields just squeaked by.
