LIHEAP Heating Bill Assistance

Back to Blog List Page
AmeriGas supports LIHEAP, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, for customers who may be having problems affording their winter heating bills. LIHEAP provides grants on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible families to help with home energy costs. Although it is a federal program, each state administers LIHEAP separately and you should apply directly to your state if you think you are eligible. Eligibility is determined by each communities’ standards, but is generally available if someone in your home is elderly, disabled or there is a young child under 6 years old. These persons are especially at risk for life-threatening illness or death if their home is too cold in the winter.

For more information and where to apply

You can call the National Energy Assistance Referral (NEAR) project. NEAR is a free service providing information on where you can apply for LIHEAP. You can speak to someone at NEAR Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m.- 5 p.m. (Mountain Time) by calling their toll-free phone number at 1-866-674-6327 or emailing energy@ncat.org or contacting your state LIHEAP office. Be sure to have a recent copy of your AmeriGas (or other energy) bill and other information on your income.
