Let’s do the math. For example, if 300 mowers are mowing 5 days a week – 6 hours a day, that totals 30 hours of mowing time each week per mower. In most of the U.S., the average landscaper mows May through October, about 26 weeks of the year. 26 weeks at 30 hours a week totals 780 hours of mowing time.

Gasoline is roughly $3.64 per gallon, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge report. If a mower runs on gasoline for 780 hours over a 6-month period, the fuel cost totals $2,839. According to the Department of Energy, the average propane price for April 2014 is $3.07 per gallon. If a landscaper is operating a propane mower over these same 6 months for the same amount of time, the total propane cost averages $2,394. That’s $445 savings in fuel cost for one mower over 6 months. Simple math shows using propane rather than gasoline saved $133,500! Ready to start you savings?
