UGI & AmeriGas Employees Pledge More Than $317,000 to the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania

In 2011, employees at the corporate office of UGI and AmeriGas in Valley Forge, PA, collectively pledged more than $317,000 to support the efforts of the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania. Our employees have supported the charitable organization for years in a humanitarian effort spearheaded by Lon Greenberg, chairman and CEO of UGI Corporation and chairman of AmeriGas, and supported by company leaders. This year was no exception.

“With the state of the economy and high unemployment, many families are faced with very difficult choices. Charitable programs are experiencing difficulty raising funds, benefit programs are being cut or under-funded, and those who rely on these programs—especially the elderly, low-income families and children—are suffering from the cut backs,” says Lon. “Our employees have demonstrated their understanding of the importance of lending a helping hand in a time of need. Thanks to their generosity, our campaign remains in the top tier of all campaigns supporting the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania.”

During the last decade, contributions from our corporate office employees rose from $138,550 in 2001 to more than $317,000 this year. Each year, UGI/AmeriGas adds a corporate contribution to our employees’ personal contributions to help meet the needs of people the United Way serves.

In 2010, the corporate campaign set a participation record, with 96 percent of employees pledging their support to the United Way. In addition to pledging financial support, employees volunteer throughout the year at United Way agency locations in the community, such as senior citizen centers, food banks and camps for underprivileged children.

Each year, the UGI/AmeriGas United Way Team, consisting of about 20 employees from nearly every department, is instrumental to a successful campaign. “We simply would not have the success we have without their help,” says Campaign Co-Chair Joe Geeter. “Year after year, the committee comes up with innovative and fun activities for employees that help create ‘buzz’ about our campaign.”
