Back to School Means Giving Back at AmeriGas

Back to Blog List Page

AmeriGas is always happy to give back to the communities we service and “Back to School” time is no exception. Many of our local offices participate in projects which help prepare students to start the new school year out right.

On Saturday, August 15 our Fort Pierce and Vero Beach, FL offices were the proud sponsors of the 4th Annual Slate Barbershop Back to School Cut-A-Thon. This event featured free food, drinks, school supplies and a free haircut, every hour from 8 a.m. to midnight. This event which began in 2011 was the brain-child of Darin “Slate” Slater, 44, of Fort Pierce who began this event as a thank you to all of his faithful customers who support his business year round. He knows how big of an expense this time of year can be on a lot of families and feels like this is his way to give back. AmeriGas couldn’t agree more and was happy to sponsor the free hourly haircuts. We recognize there are people in the communities we service who need our help and this event was just one way for us to do so! Luke Lewis, Sales Manager for Area 20, said it best when he explained why we got Involved. “When it comes to giving, it’s not always about receiving something back or being recognized. There are people out there with real needs, and that‘s where AmeriGas wants to concentrate our efforts on being good stewards in the community.”

Our Rhinelander, WI office also got into the Back to School spirit of giving by holding their second annual Customer Appreciation Day. Customers were encouraged to bring in items to help fill the backpacks of those students in need and in turn received a discount on their cylinder refills. In addition, for every 120lb cylinder filled during the event $5 was donated to the local Rhinelander school system. In addition to all of the great items collected a total of $600 was donated from the proceeds of this event.

In addition, AmeriGas is proud to offer our School Days program, which helps raise funds for the local schools in the communities we service. Those schools participating in the program earn $.02 per gallon, up to $2,000 in a calendar year, by simply collecting AmeriGas receipts. Schools enrolled in the School Days program are eligible to purchase items for any school-related need with the funds earned. Schools have purchased books, computers, sporting and band equipment, art materials, vocational technical supplies and more. Schools who would like to participate in the program should contact their local office to get set up. After that, simply collect AmeriGas receipts and watch the gallons add up!
