A New Look for AmeriGas Propane Exchange

You may have noticed our sleek new look for our propane exchange tanks. Don’t worry – it’s still the same great tanks and propane, just with a facelift.  In the spirit of this change, we thought we would take you on a trip down memory lane to show you have we have changed over time, to fit the needs of valued AmeriGas customers, like you!

Since the beginning of AmeriGas in 1959, we have sought to provide our customers with the most reliable, safest and most responsive propane service in the nation. By 1997, we wanted to find a way to bring more value to you, the customer, much like we did with propane applications for your home and business.

AmeriGas began to sell and exchange pre-filled propane tanks in 1997, servicing about 200 retail locations around the Phoenix and southern California areas, including Fry’s Grocery store and Circle K. You knew us then as PPX, or “Prefilled Propane Exchange.” We brought the propane closer to places where you already shop, allowing you more choices on where and how to get your propane.

Our operations grew in number and reach throughout the country, and in 2006, with 22,000 locations, we decided to change our identity to something that took us away from the technical PPX name and brought us back to our AmeriGas roots. The name was changed to “AmeriGas Cylinder Exchange,” and our graphics featured a new cartoon mascot known as the “Grill Guy”. We have proudly stood behind this image for the past eight years, growing our network and services.

Last year, we decided to refresh our image as a way to make sure it communicated our brand. Our new look is a welcome change that matches what we stand for, clean, convenient propane exchange provided by a company that you know and trust. Keep an eye out for our new image at a location near you, and thank you for choosing AmeriGas!
